A striking antique brass double inkwell in the French Empire style, featuring two classical urn-form wells set on an elegant rectangular stand.
The piece is rich with sculptural detail: dramatic serpent-shaped side handles, acanthus trim and lion paw feet supporting the base. The twin urns retain their hinged lids and sit on fluted pedestal bases.
Originally used on a writing desk in the 19th century, pieces like this held ink for dip pens. Today it makes an equally compelling styling object—perfect on a desk, bookshelf, or console. The wells can be used traditionally, or styled with tapers or small objects for a creative display.
A wonderful example of functional deskware elevated into sculpture.
