Marked “Breveté” | Circa late 1800s to early 1900s
Utterly charming and beautifully aged, this petite French vanity stand is as functional as it is decorative. Crafted from what appears to be brass, it features a delicate etched-glass surface framed by ornate openwork metal and a unique attached ring box with tufted silk upholstery.
The oval base sits atop scrolled legs, joined with decorative chainwork, while the ring box opens on a hinge and showcases detailed repoussé metalwork. The underside is stamped “Breveté T.J. SGDG”—a French patent marking that roughly translates to “patented without government guarantee,” seen on many French objects pre-1960s.
