A beautifully aged hand carved wooden santo — a devotional religious figure in the Catholic tradition, likely Spanish Colonial or European in origin. The figure depicts a crowned female saint in flowing robes, arms extended in offering. Remnants of original polychrome paint — red, white and blue — are visible throughout, evidence of what was once a fully painted surface. The back is unfinished, confirming this was made to be displayed against a wall or in a niche, as was traditional.
The hands or held object are missing, which is extremely common in antique santos as these elements were often carved separately and lost over time. Worm holes visible on the base are a significant marker of genuine age.
A piece that belongs in a serious collection or a beautifully curated space.
Condition: Missing hands. Paint loss throughout. Worm holes on base. Chips and wear consistent with age. Sold as-is.
