Early Henry Troemner balance scale made in Philadelphia, with an ebonized wood case, marble top, two metal weighing pans, hand-painted gold detailing, and the original center balance indicator. Both pans are stamped Henry Troemner, and the maker’s plate on the back reads “Henry Troemner / Maker / Philadelphia, PA.”
The scale mechanism is still responsive—the pans move up and down and the center indicator moves accordingly. I’m selling it primarily as a decorative piece rather than as a calibrated working scale.
Measurements Approx. 19 1/4" W × 8" D × 5 1/4" H
Why I Love It
Original marble top
Two stamped Henry Troemner weighing pans
Great black, cream and aged-metal combination
Beautiful old hand-painted detailing across the case
Especially good kitchen-counter piece—I'd style the pans with fruit, collected objects, or leave them empty
Condition
Significant age-related tarnish and discoloration to both pans; they have been cleaned but retain their aged finish
Wear, scratches and scattered losses to the ebonized finish, particularly along the front lower edge
Additional surface wear, scuffs and small chips throughout the wood case
Marble shows age-related surface wear and scratching
Scale mechanism moves/responds, but accuracy has not been tested and it is not being represented as calibrated
